On the one-year anniversary of their polarising “WAP” release, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have hinted at their shared desire to link up on a follow-up track.
“WAP” originally arrived on August 7, 2020, as an antidote for the millions of people staying chastely locked-down during the pandemic, and featured cameo appearances from Kylie Jenner, Rosalía, Normani, and a host of controversial big cats.
“Wow I can’t believe wappity ‘WAP’ turned one today,” wrote Cardi B on Twitter last night. “It don’t even feel like it. What a record!” Then, tagging Megan Thee Stallion, she suggested: “We should do it again sometime.”
To fans’ delight, Megan Thee Stallion appears to be on board for a sequel to Ben Shapiro’s fave karaoke song. “Happy WAPIVERSARY,” she responds to Cardi’s tweets. “Thank you for having me, I think the people deserve another collab.”
“Love me some Cardi,” the Houston rapper adds in a later tweet.
Currently, there’s no further confirmation of an upcoming “WAP” collab. To be fair, it could take a while to come up with something to top the pandemic masterpiece that spawned thousands of TikTok mashups and unwanted thinkpieces. Either way, right wing commentators are bound to be mad.
Earlier this week, ASL interpreter Kelly Kurdi also went viral for signing “WAP” during Megan Thee Stallion’s performance at Lollapalooza (watch here). In March, Cardi and Meg teamed up for a raunchy performance of the track at the 2021 Grammys.
