Back in March, Kevin Abstract claimed that Brockhampton’s latest album — Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine — would be one of two released in 2021, and that these would be the last full-length projects from the group. Now, he’s confirmed that their (supposedly final) full-length record is on the way.
As before, Abstract made the announcement in a tweet, which simply reads: “New Brockhampton album out before the end of the year.”
The group also reflects on their forthcoming final record, and the end of the group as a whole, in a new interview with GQ, with singer and producer Bearface stating: “We didn't have that many more albums in us.”
“Everybody's given their life for the last 10 years,” adds the group’s Romil Hemnani. “And at a certain point, people deserve to give their lives to themselves. So it feels like it's time to let everyone just spread their wings and do the things that they want to do.”
In May this year, Abstract took to Twitter to share a thread about the Brockhampton project coming to an end, assuring fans that there’s no animosity. “We all love each other and we wanna continue making the best music we can,” he wrote. “Everybody just getting a lil older and got a lot to say outside of group projects.”
Since releasing Roadrunner, the group’s de facto leader has also announced that he’s working on a full-length solo record, which would follow 2019’s Arizona Baby. Just last week (July 16), he released a new solo track, “Slugger”, featuring $NOT and slowthai.
