Earlier this year, M.I.A. started a Patreon account to “open up the conversation with my fans” and “get back to using the internet in a positive way”. Subscribers could get access to “short films, clips, and video diaries”, as well as “random surprise content... a song, a recipe, a manifesto”. While her previous posts have been non-musical, her latest upload is “OHMNI 202091”. What’s more, the track is available for free, not behind a paywall, so anybody can listen to it. “Free music to get you the fuck up outta bed!” M.I.A. tweeted. “Here’s the beginning. New M.I.A. M.I.A W2020 4 COV19.” M.I.A.’s last album was 2016’s AIM, but she has put out a couple of tracks since then, including “P.O.W.A.” and the previously unreleased 2004 track “Reload”.
