The track will feature on the soundtrack to the upcoming kids movie, Trolls World Tour, in which Timberlake voices one of the characters. The “Rock Your Body” singer also produced the soundtrack for the original 2016 film, Trolls. “The Other Side” is written by Max Martin – the A-list hitmaker who’s famously worked with the likes of Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande – Childish Gambino collaborator Ludwig Göransson, and Sarah Aarons, as well as SZA and Timberlake, and was produced by JT and Göransson. SZA discussed working with Timberlake in August 2019 when she announced that her follow-up to 2017’s Ctrl was on the way. “Before I was like, ‘what the fuck am I doing in the studio with Justin Timberlake right now?’,” the singer said. “But when I heard his music and we started singing together… it’s like, ‘oh, we speak the same language’. I understood where he was going before he could finish a run.” It’s unclear if SZA was referring to “The Other Side”, or if there’s another collab on the horizon. Either way, 2020 is going to be SZA’s year – fans can look forward to her second studio album, as well as a collaboration between the singer and Megan Thee Stallion.
