Well, you know what they say, if Drake disses you on a track, turn it into a Holy Spirit anthem and broadcast it to thousands of people on the gram. This week’s Sunday Service, which took place in Watts, California, near his home of Calabasas (RIP domes), featured a gospel rendition of Drake and Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode”, a 2018 track that’s thought to be aimed at Kanye and the Kardashian Klan. Presumably the irony was not lost on Yeezy, whose cover replaced “Out like a light” to “Jesus Christ/ he’s the light/ he’s lit”.
Among the attendees was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star Brad Pitt and, of course, Kim Kardashian, who tweeted a video of West and his choir performing a religious cover of 2Pac’s “California Love”, changing the line “California knows how to party” to “Glory, glory, hallelujah”.
Last week, West revealed his ninth studio album, Jesus Is King, in a tweet by his wife, Kim K. Set for release next month, tracks include, “God Is”, “Sweet Jesus”, and “Baptized”. Keep on shining, Ye.
