The video, which was premiered during an ABC special yesterday, features scenes from the movie intercut with footage of Beyoncé dancing in the film’s Pride Lands setting. Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé’s daughter, also appears in the video. The Lion King: The Gift features 13 songs, eight of which feature Beyoncé, in a move that feels quite similar to Kendrick Lamar’s Black Panther soundtrack. Other contributors include Jay-Z, Kendrick, Tierra Whack, and Blue Ivy. “I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film,” Beyoncé said of the album in a press release. “It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat... It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers.” The album is out on Friday (July 19) to coincide with the US release of the film.
