When you think about it, it’s pretty on-brand as well, given Ari’s penchant for 90s/early-2000s nostalgia (see: “thank u, next”). If the singer hasn’t actually confirmed the on-stage collab, she hasn’t exactly shied away from fuelling the rumours, either. Two Instagram pics posted in the last couple of days show her at an NSYNC concert as a little kid (v cute) and, more recently, dancing to “Tearin’ Up My Heart”. Unfortunately, TMZ reports that there will be no Justin Timberlake involved even if the rest of the band do appear, but we’ll just have to appreciate the 4/5ths we can get. Other rumours about guests that might pop up during Ariana’s set include Nicki Minaj, which really wouldn’t be surprising, given their many collaborations in the past. Whoever she manages to bring onstage, though, Ariana definitely has a challenge lined up for her, given that – in many people’s eyes – she’ll be competing against Beyoncé’s immediately-iconic Coachella show in 2018 (which was big enough to justify its own documentary, out April 17). Hopefully people won’t get so carried away with the comparisons that it takes away from a show that’s sure to be impressive, and maybe meme-filled, if her most recent video and the mass-appreciation for “Baby Shark” at this year’s Coachella are anything to go by.
