The concert was put together to fund the Ally Coalition, which aims to raise money and awareness for the country’s homeless LGBTQ youth. Lorde performed Swedish artist Robyn’s tune from her seminal album Bodytalk, with album producer Jack Antonoff backing her up on the piano for the raw, stripped back version of the electro-pop song. The concert also included appearances by Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry – who sang Katy Perry’s teen anthem “Fireworks” – while Charli XCX did an acoustic version of “Boom Clap”. Carly Rae Jepsen crooned “Run Away With Me”. Lorde, Mayberry, Charli XCX and Jepsen joined onstage to sing the Fleetwood Mac classic “Go Your Own Way” for a massive finale. Recently turning 20, the Pure Heroine singer revealed details of her upcoming album in a post on Facebook. “Writing Pure Heroine was my way of enshrining our teenage glory, putting it up in lights forever so that part of me never dies, and this record – well, this one is about what comes next,” she detailed. The singer called her newest lyrics “the best I’ve written in my life”. “I just need to keep working a while longer to make it as good as it can be,” she added. “You’ll have to hold on. The big day is not tomorrow, or even next month realistically, but soon.” Watch the former Dazed cover star performing “Hang With Me” at the benefit show below.
