Directed by Grant Singer, whose previous credits include work with Sky Ferreira and Ariel Pink (not to mention his previous work with The Weeknd on the “I Can’t Feel My Face”/“The Hills”/“Tell Your Friends” trilogy), the video is glossy as hell and has a dark sense of humour. Daft Punk make a brief cameo as portraits on the wall, too: In the video, the R&B singer gets killed by his own doppelganger, who proceeds to destroy any remnants of The Weeknd’s past self. Elsewhere, there’s a big cat, and The Weeknd goes on a night drive. Even though it’s only been out for a minute, the “Starboy” video is already doing pretty well – yesterday (September 27) it received a nomination for Best Video at the MTV EMAs before it was even released.
