If anyone was disappointed with “Pillowtalk” (you may have been), Zayn Malik has quickly followed up his first single (that reached No.1 in 68 countries) with an arguably better song. Performing live on Jimmy Fallon backed by The Roots, Malik delivered a wonderful, albeit slightly nervous live version of previously unheard track “It’s You”, a spacious, sultry number that shows off his vocal ability.

The chatshow route has become a conventional platform for musicians to break out and make waves via a TV debut – see Future Islands on Letterman or Odd Future on Fallon. While the Zayn Malik machine hardly needs any oiling, his flawless performance will no doubt help to affirm his position as a solo artist to be taken seriously.
