Music / MixGirl Unit drops an exclusive mixWhat happens when you combine Aaliyah, afrobeat and some serious bass? Girl Unit shows us, with a mix for your mid weekShareLink copied ✔️May 27, 2015MusicMixText Dazed Digital London producer Girl Unit (aka Philip Gamble) has dropped an exclusive mix with Dazed to brighten up your mid week. A combination of mixtape crew Qween Beat and Dej Loaf, with pepperings of afrobeat, Beyoncé, R&B icon Ginuwine and some serious production gems by Gamble himself – this is one helluva mix. It follows Girl Unit's take over of last month's House of Vans x Dazed party, alongside fellow UK club legends Mosca, Murlo, Hudson Mohawke and Logan Sama. Listen to the high energy mix here while you catch up with Gamble below. What was the most important club to you in your formative years? Girl Unit: No specific club, but I have a lot of good memories from Night Slugs at the Red Star in Camberwell, playing Club Vortex in NYC in 2008, going to raves at Ewer Street Car Park, seeing Felix Da Housecat at Ghetto and DJ Assault at Corsica Studios. What's the one track that never fails to make you nostalgic for for your early club experiences? Girl Unit: Zombie Nation – “Kernkraft 400”. What do you think about the state of UK nightlife today? Girl Unit: Keep seeing a few little rays of light here and there. I like a lot of the shows/DJs that Radar Radio is giving exposure to. Where do you think the most exciting nightlife is happening in the country right now? Girl Unit: Body Party at Miranda. Escape the algorithm!
