The battle over McDonald’s has taken centre stage in the US presidential race. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, revealed in campaign ads and interviews leading up to the election that they had worked at McDonald’s as students. In response, Donald Trump and his campaign have fervently accused the pair of fabricating their McDonald’s work experience, claiming they are falsely presenting themselves as having working-class roots.

The former President and Republican presidential candidate seems to have taken Harris and Emhoff’s alleged McDonald’s employment as a personal affront. Trump, well known for his fondness for fast food – famously serving McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, and pizza at the White House during the 2019 government shutdown – now seeks to establish his own fast food credentials. 

On Sunday, (October 20), 15 days before the US presidential election, Trump rolled up his sleeves, donned an apron, and served French fries at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. However, theories have emerged suggesting the event was staged. Photos circulating on Reddit show Trump waving at a camera in an allegedly empty McDonald’s drive-thru. But can you blame him for wanting to live his Lana Del Rey working at a Waffle House fantasy?
