The most memorable moments from the 2024 Olympic Games

French athlete Alice Finot broke the European record in women’s 3,000-metre walking and proposed to her boyfriend after the race. Similarly, after her medal ceremony, Olympic gold medalist Huang Ya Qiong was proposed to by her boyfriend, fellow teammate Liu Yuchen. Both proposals sparked intense discourse online as people complained about Finot proposing to her boyfriend and Yuchen taking Ya Qiong’s “moment”. Everyone should touch some grass. All the couples are very happy, and we should stop projecting our own feelings onto them unless they specify otherwise.

Kim Yeji won silver in the women’s 10-metre air pistol and set a world record in the 25-metre pistol for women, all while exuding an effortless swagger that has got the internet in a chokehold.

Yusuf Dikec and Yeji are on opposite sides of the spectrum. While Yeji was kitted up in cyborg glasses, Dikec wore no protective gear and won a silver medal. Several athletes, such as Swedish pole vault champion Mondo Duplantis, replicated his nonchalant stance at the Games.

We’ve had a very poopy Olympic Games this year, haven’t we? From the people threatening to poop in the Seine to Seth Rider not washing his hands after using the toilet to increase his E.coli threshold before swimming in the Seine. It’s all too much!!

Black girls kill it at everything, but this year, they specifically killed it at the Olympics. Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles from Team USA and Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade made history making up the first all-Black Olympic Gymnastics podium. Chiles won bronze (which has now unfairly been taken from her), Biles won silver, and Andrade won gold.  

Track and field’s greatest showman and Dazed cover star, Noah Lyles, won gold.

Tarsis Orogot may have come sixth in his heat in the Men’s 200m semifinal, but he has come first in our hearts with his adorable minion socks. You’re a winner to me, Orogot x

Snoop Dogg gets paid $500k a day PLUS expenses to be a goofball at the Olympics. He should not be getting that much money...but I do love him <3

France does not recognise the state of Palestine, so it’s been incredible to see athletes like Valerie Tarazi and Yazan Al Bawwab paint Palestinian flags on their bodies as an act of defiance.

At 21, Letsile Tebogo won Botswana’s first Olympic gold medal in the 200m final race, with a time of 19.46s.

Chinese artistic gymnast Zhou Yaqin won gold in the balance beam final. She went viral after copying gold medalist Alice D’Amato and Manila Esposito from Team Italy on the podium while they bit into their medals. So adorable.

Rachael Gunn represented Australia as its first-ever breakdancer. Her dancing was not very good, but I love her confidence. Nobody be mean to her because she tried her hardest, and that’s what matters. She is also doing a PhD in the cultural politics of breaking. She’s dedicated to her craft, and not many can say the same!

After being in the midst of a transphobic and misogynist gender row after rightfully beating Italian boxer Angela Carini, Imane Khelif came out victorious as she beat Lin Yu-Ting and won welterweight gold. She has noted that the attacks she faced (to which she has now filed harassment complaints) have made her victory even sweeter. Her victory is our victory!

Billie Eilish delivered a captivating performance to close the Olympic Games, performing “Bird of a Feather” and “The Greatest” from her latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.
