Dazed’s series of educational talks, Making It Up As We Go Along, is officially back to blow open the creative industries and let you know how projects come together behind closed doors. Previously covering topics such as running a creative agency and what it’s like to work as a fashion assistant, the autumn/winter programme is set to cover more ground than ever, granting Dazed Club members insider insights across beauty, photography, tech and gaming, and styling. Yes, Dazed is opening up its 180 Strand headquarters for anyone who’s signed up to Dazed Club. Behind the scenes, this will grant access to a host of exclusive events, including talks with expert speakers loaded with information, tips, guidance and inspiration to kickstart your own creative career. First up, the series is set to kick off with Ugly Beauty: How Creative Self-Expression Triumphed on September 19. This will see Dazed Beauty editor Alex Peters, content editor Vanessa Hsieh, and make-up artist (and special guest) Alice Dodds discuss the titural viral beauty trend, and why it’s taking over social media. Later in the programme, meanwhile, Dazed And Everything Internet will see Dazed features editor Günseli Yalcinkaya and gaming editor Alim Kheraj discuss how internet culture became the new youth culture, via AI, gaming, VR, memes, and more. Dazed’s arts and photography editor Emily Dinsdale will also host a talk on the rise of documentary photography across a new generation of image-makers, while AnOther Magazine’s fashion editor, Rebecca Perlmutar, and junior fashion editor, Jordan Duddy, will share some secrets about becoming a fashion editor in The Real Life Of A Stylist. “Giving Dazed Club members the key to the office to come behind the scenes is the experience they have been itching for,” says Jack Sunnucks, creative director of Dazed Club. “What they crave the most from Dazed Club is access, knowledge and opportunity within the creative industry. Giving them a series of tailored talks run by our editors, from the inside, where the storytelling begins and the pages of the magazine are built, has elevated this series to the next level.” In case all of that wasn’t enough, the latest Making It Up As We Go Along programme will also feature competition callouts for Dazed Club members, with paid opportunities for photographers and graphic designers to document events, create flyers, and go even further behind the scenes. Tickets for Ugly Beauty: How Creative Self-Expression Triumphed will go on sale for £3 on September 11, and are exclusive to Dazed Club members.
