How to use your writing to make a positive social change with Dazed Academy

Sign up to the next edition of our monthly Making It Up As We Go Along programme of free events to help you break into the creative sector

Are you a writer keen to chronicle the tumultuous world around you? As part of Dazed Academy’s Making It Up As We Go Along programme, Dazed Digital editor Anna Cafolla will be joined by staff writer Brit Dawson to discuss how to focus your journalism on making a positive change in society and culture.

Taking place on May 12, the pair will share tips and advice on honing your voice, finding the stories you want to tell, and how to present them. Think: How do you get to the beating heart of an issue? What are the best ways to research and find relevant sources? How do you pitch your work to the platforms elevating the stories that matter? The Making It Up As We Go Along programme features 45 minute digital workshops, talks, mentoring, and community building, with the goal of empowering and educating those hoping to break into fashion, art, photography, film, dance, music, publishing, digital media, video, and much more.

Last month, AnOther editor-in–chief Susannah Frankel and fashion features director Alexander Fury discussed the making of the magazine over its 20 year journey. Previously, Dazed’s executive editorial director Lynette Nylander spoke on how she broke into the fashion and journalism industry, from building her CV and portfolio to being a Forbes 30 under 30 figure, and working at Teen Vogue and CR Fashion Book.

Upcoming events include a ‘Styling Workshop 101’ with Dazed’s editor-in-chief Ib Kamara and ‘How To Have An Engaging Social Media Presence’ with senior Instagram editor Vanessa Hsieh and social media editor Marios Mystidis.
