Beginning with Zendaya’s character, Rue, singing and dancing around her room to Frank Sinatra’s “Call Me Irresponsible”, the visuals quickly descend into chaos (think: partying, police sirens, and petty vandalism). Hinting at an escalation of the events in season one, there are also snippets of a SWAT team, various weapons being brandished, and an enigmatic scene that sees Rue grabbed from behind in what could be a kidnapping. “When you’re younger, everything feels so permanent,” she narrates over the action. “But as you get older, you begin to realise nothing is, and everyone you love can drift away.” The Dune actor previously hinted that the second season of the HBO hit will take an even darker turn earlier this year, when she warned fans: “It’s not going to be a fun watch, I don’t think. Sometimes.” The filming on season two of Euphoria was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, but in the interim we have received an update on the show’s main cast members, Rue and Jules (played by Hunter Schafer). In December 2020, HBO aired the first of two specials dealing with the aftermath of the first series, followed by the second on January 22 this year. Euphoria season two will see Zendaya and Schafer return alongside Barbie Ferreira, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, and more. As showcased in the new teaser, Dominic Fike also joins the cast as a “homie” of Rue and Jules, described by the musician and actor himself as a “degenerate”. Euphoria season two will premiere via HBO Max in the US, on January 9, 2022. Watch the new teaser below. Escape the algorithm!
