Watch a new, action-packed teaser for Cowboy Bebop’s live action reboot

The Netflix show’s ragtag team of bounty hunters take out a target in the standalone clip

Netflix has dropped a new teaser for its upcoming live-action reboot of Cowboy Bebop, in the form of a short, standalone adventure — titled “The Lost Session” — that won’t appear in the series itself.

Starring John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, the two-minute clip whisks the trio through a variety of scenes, bound together with the colourful visuals previously seen in the show’s opening credits. With witty banter and action-packed fight scenes, it also offers an insight into each character ahead of the show’s premiere next month.

Discussing the pressure of acting in a show that’s bound to be compared to the anime, John Cho has previously stated that he doesn’t want to adhere too closely to its predecessor. “I didn’t want to do that artistically,” he said. “And I also thought that that was a recipe for encouraging unflattering comparisons. How could you do it better? You can’t. You have to do something a little different.”

Nevertheless, there are some distinct similarities, with the return of Cowboy Bebop’s original composer, Yoko Kanno, and even the original (and iconic) theme song, “Tank!”. Besides Cho, Shakir, and Pineda, the show will star non-binary actor Mason Alexander Park as Gren, with the anime director Shinichirō Watanabe on board as a consultant.

The first, 10-episode season of the Cowboy Bebop live action reboot is set to arrive on Netflix on November 19, with the full trailer reportedly arriving next week. In the meantime, you’ll be able to rewatch the anime on Netflix from October 21, and the new teaser below.
