The Sex and the City reboot finally has a premiere date

In a new teaser, Sarah Jessica Parker takes us behind-the-scenes of the And Just Like That set

In a new teaser for the forthcoming Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That, Sarah Jessica Parker takes viewers behind-the-scenes to announce the show’s premiere date: December 2021.

“Hello from New York City, 5th Avenue,” SJP says in the clip, “shooting as we speak, the next chapter of Sex and the City – or, as we like to call it, And Just Like That – with some beloved friends. But in the meantime, And Just Like That will premiere in December on HBO Max.”

In the video, we see SJP as Carrie Bradshaw and her best friends Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) serving high fashion looks as they wander the streets of NYC, take heated phone calls at home, and lunch together in (probably) the city’s hottest new spot.

The teaser is the second to be shared from the show, following a brief look at Carrie and Mr Big (reprised by Chris Noth), which arrived last month. In that clip, the couple appear to be happier than ever, cooking, dancing, and kissing in their shared kitchen. Things might not be as they seem, however, as a previously-leaked script revealed that the couple are, in fact, in the midst of a messy divorce.

Although Kim Cattrall (AKA Samantha Jones) won’t return for the reboot – Ari Parker is set to replace Samantha as Carrie’s new BFF, documentary filmmaker Lisa Todd Wexley – many of the show’s original actors are set to reprise their roles, including John Corbett (Aiden), David Eigenberg (Steve), and Evan Handler (Harry). The show has also cast its first non-binary actor and character in Sara Ramíez, who will play stand-up comic and podcaster Che Diaz.

Willie Garson, who played talent agent and Carrie’s BFF Stanford Blatch, was also returning for the new series, but sadly passed away last month after suffering with pancreatic cancer. It’s believed his scenes – which he largely filmed in July – will still appear in the show.

Paying tribute to her co-star after his death, SJP wrote on Instagram: “Willie. I will miss everything about you. And replay our last moments together. I will re-read every text from your final days and put to pen our last calls. Your absence a crater that I will fill with blessing of these memories and all the ones that are still in recesses yet to surface.”

The 10-episode first season of And Just Like That will premiere on HBO Max in December. A UK release date is yet to be announced. Watch the teaser below, and, while you wait, read Samantha Jones Public Relations’ rival SATC spin-off here.
