In the clip, the cast discuss how the upcoming series is darker and “edgier” compared to the 90s sitcom, and even more twisted from the original comic book series. During some of the exclusive interviews with the cast members (including Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto and Michelle Gomez), they all affirm that the new Sabrina is more horror, but with room for a bit of comedy. The footage highlights some jump-scares, creepy looking rituals and encounters with woodland monsters. As Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka and our Sabrina explains, her role sees the half witch, half mortal raised by witches forced to make a decision on her 16th birthday. Torn between two worlds, she must decide whether to sign the book of the beast and ascend to her witch role, or turn away to the mortal plane with her boyfriend and friends. “The path of light or the path of night?” she’s asked – but Sabrina wants both. The footage also gives away a bit more about the series’ main storyline, as Sabrina explains that she plans to defeat the Dark Lord who pursues her. It’s a super dark coming-of-age story, feat. some cannibalism, human sacrifice and devil worship. Elsewhere, the cast explain that the reboot has a lot of “powerful” female characters, who are “unapologetic in their fierceness”, from other teen witches to her aunts Hilda and Zelda, and the demonically posessed teacher.
