Believe it or not, it’s been over a decade since Billie Eilish uploaded her debut single, “Ocean Eyes”, to SoundCloud. She might have been only 13 at the time, but she’s had a distinct personal style from the jump. Her graffiti-print, oversized matching sets quickly became as synonymous with the Billie brand as her neon roots and whispery vocals. Even from the outline of her silhouette, you’d know immediately who she was.

In recent years, she’s revealed more about her baggy wardrobe choices, confessing that covering up was a way to manage her “toxic” relationship with her body. “I had a lot of eating issues,” she said last month in an interview with Elle. “I remember putting on, like, a big shirt and the relief that I felt. At the same time, it was my love for hip-hop culture and wanting to be a man.” She cites rappers such as Missy Elliot and Tyler, The Creator as her style inspirations, both known for their loose, weighty clothing.

In our own Dazed cover shoot with Eilish from 2020, she took oversized to new heights with a custom, larger-than-life Carhartt WIP puffer jacket, designed by Duran Lantink. A year later, in 2021, Eilish entered a new sartorial era – dramatically switching her usual garb for a tightly laced corset and latex lingerie, appearing on the cover of British Vogue. “Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you,” she explained.

Whether she’s opted to show skin or not, Eilish has never been afraid to lean into fashion. Some days she’s a corseted pin-up doll, other days she’s on stage wearing a cap and basketball jersey. She’s also been known to blend the two styles together, resulting in a babuskha silk headscarf, contrasted with silver grillz (like her look from 2023’s Academy Museum Gala, above).

The 24-year-old star is about to release her documentary: Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft - The Tour Live in 3D. It’s directed by Eilish herself, alongside three-time Academy Award winner James Cameron, bringing audiences an immersive gig experience and taking us behind the scenes of her 2025 tour. As her directorial debut hit cinemas, we take a look back at some of her greatest fashion moments of the past 10 years. Scroll through the gallery above to discover our favourite picks.
