...and more fashion news you missed
Though Jeremy Scott’s sudden exit left a question mark over the future of Moschino, the brand will be travelling back over its past with a 40-year anniversary show during Milan Fashion Week in September. The spectacle will pay tribute to the label’s legendary founder Franco Moschino, who was one of the most provocative and irreverent designers of contemporary cannon, responsible for thrusting “bad” taste into the beau monde of fashion. In the absence of a creative director – the brand’s bosses continue to interview potential candidates for Scott’s successor – the commemorative show will be spearheaded by stylists Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Katie Grand, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, and Lucia Liu – all of whom have been tasked with producing ten looks inspired by the life and legacy of Moschino. The announcement dovetails with the arrival of M05CH1N0 JEANS, which is a new brand extension, rooted in the rebellious spirit of denim culture. Click here to see what’s in store.
In other fashion news this week, a fetid mountain of fast fashion landfill was spotted from space and PETA’s founder threatened to make a Birkin out of her own skin. Elsewhere, Blondie landed a Marc Jacobs campaign and Wales Bonner’s SS23 collaboration with adidas Originals got its big debut. GIVENCHY IS PRE-GAMING
This week, Matthew M Wiliams unveiled his SS24 womenswear Pre-Collection at Givenchy. As usual, the clothes straddled a laid-back California cool with all the savoir fair of a storied Parisian maison – unstructured suits in Chantilly lace, crystal-encrusted separates cut from powder-blue leathers, and snow leopard trench coats. The limited edition collection includes eyewear and clothing, among them workwear jackets, cargo trousers, and a pair of aerodynamic sunglasses – all of which have been showcased in a short film made by longstanding Palace collaborator Adam Todhunter. BALMAIN IS BEGGING YOU TO TAKE ANNUAL LEAVE
Long before people became aware of the climate crisis, Pierre Balmain was private-jetting to Asia, the Americas, Africa, Australia, and all corners of Europe. As part of the brand’s Pre-Fall 2023 collection, Olivier Rousteing has conjured the founder’s “l’art du voyage” spirit in a new handbag. Arriving in three separate colourways, the B-Buzz Dynasty takes inspiration from vintage travel vanities. It’s meant to evoke “images of powerful women and luxury voyages – women moving through life with determination, mixing glamour with sensuality,” and you can see more about that here.
