The musician joins a long list of offbeat girlies who got their debut on the runway at Prada’s bratty little sister label, like Lila Moss, George Rouy, and, erm, Rita Ora. Strutting out onto the catwalk on the final day of Paris Fashion Week, twigs – aka Thaliah Debrett Barnett – wore a skintight ribbed navy jumper she’d seemingly not had time to zip up properly backstage, a crisp white shirt, and this season’s iteration of THAT minuscule Miu Miu skirt, this time crafted from nylon and bearing big cargo pockets to the hips. Also walking was Ethel Cain, Miranda July and Emily Ratajkowski, who showed up wearing a belt as a top à la an 00s it-girl and a knee-length caramel leather cargo skirt, followed by Lindsey Wixon, Anok Yai, and Bella Hadid – of course. Male presenting models once again made an emergence on the Miu Miu runway, dressed in a made-to-share wardrobe that blurred the lines between men’s and womenswear – careening between shin-skimming skirts and Canadian tuxedos made from battered and bruised denim (an evolution of the leather pieces that have appeared across Prada and Miu Miu catwalks over the past couple of seasons). The collection was made to feel a little more utilitarian this season, with nylon bralettes strapped across the chest in plastic buckles, leather safari gilets bulging with 3D pockets, and boat-necked windbreakers drawstringed into a fit-and-flare silhouette. Nylon belt bags were worn over frumpy and pleated skirts, babydoll dresses were made from crinkly technical fabrics, while flip flops had been fashioned into freakish leather boot-hybrids. Even the more obviously feminine pieces – like those sheer slips and crystal-encrusted silk skirts that have dominated recent collections – took on a Mountain Warehouse accent in off-shades of grey, olive, and fluro greens.
