It’s been three months since we first saw adidas and Gucci join forces in a kaleidoscopic AW22 show. This was followed by an equally colourful Carlijn Jacobs lookbook, for which Alessandro Michele drew inspiration from archival catalogues, encouraging his models to pose against bold backdrops à la an 80s infomercial.

With the first drop now here, the collaboration between the sportswear giant and one of the world’s most prestigious luxury brands is bound to make its mark on fashion. So, we asked Dazed’s editor-in-chief IB Kamara to select some of his favourites from the collection, which were then transformed into cute paper doll-style illustrations.

The ready-to-wear collection – as seen on the front cover of Dazed’s summer 2022 issue starring A$AP Rocky – screams retro sportswear, with various reimaginings of adidas’ iconic, three-striped tracksuit: shorts and jogger pants for women, or flared pants and a bowling shirt for men. Photographed by Brianna Capozzi and styled by Kamara, the cover shoot sees A$AP surrounded by a crew of friends, sporting a white adidas x Gucci blazer and tracksuit bottoms.

Also in the collection are tennis-inspired polos, sweater vests, skirts, and a knit dress that brings a more sophisticated mood to the selection, while bright and energetic prints with the adidas Trefoil and Interlocking G are seen across a wide range of styles. “I really like how these garments fit, they look very modern yet timeless and the cut and the fabrication are very beautiful,” says Kamara. 

Elsewhere, the Gucci Horsebit 1955 crossbody and tote with equestrian-inspired hardware are reimagined with the adidas Trefoil, while luggage bags embellished with the adidas Trefoil and “Gucci” spelled backwards are summer vacation chic essentials.

The first adidas x Gucci collection arrives on June 7 across select Gucci stores, dedicated pop-ups, and online on Gucci.com as well as on the adidas CONFIRMED app. Take a look at the collection modelled IRL in the gallery below.
