In 2022, there must be a putrid smell in the air, while the raw meat movement is taking off on social media among alt-right alpha males, the 84-year-old, best known for his roles in gruesome horrors like Silence of The Lambs and The Rite, just scored his first major fashion campaign. Elsewhere, Jessie Buckley, Kaia Gerber, Caroline Polacheck, Lynda Benglis, and Josh O’Connor join the designer’s usual roster of famous faces, shot, of course, by longtime Loewe collaborator Juergen Teller. As they pose in frothy bath tubs, old school salons, and Schwarzenegger-style gyms, the cast underscore the design team’s recent lean into irreverence – all hooped vests, jean boots, parakeet prints, and hulking yeti jackets. The AW22 campaign also runs the gamut of Anderson’s muses, which is unrestricted by the standard superstar-turned-model trope. At 80 year’s old, Benglis, for example, is said to be one of the designer’s favourite artists, having made a career sculpting huge piles of amorphous slop. The same goes for Maya Nakanishi, a Paralympic athlete on Team Japan and lesser-known singer-songwriter Alewya, all of whom add a bit of quirk to the likes of Gerber and pop star Hyun Ah.
