Palace and adidas drop a ‘wellness’ collaboration and the Fashion Awards are back, baby
As the colonialist state Israel continues to impose violence and persistent ethnic cleansing on the Palestinian people, GmbH has been, perhaps, one of the only fashion brands to call for a free Palestine. Though, that comes as little surprise. The Berlin label’s founders, Serhat Isik and Benjamin Huseby, have never shirked from addressing politics, making their solidarity with oppressed groups the bedrock of their brand. The duo’s amplification of immigrant and queer communities, as well as the trans rights movement, has been notable. And now, GmbH has come together with Palestinian label Trashy Clothing to produce a Free Palestine capsule.
Based on Trashy’s archival research into historical Palestinian art and activist graphics, the two labels have created a bandana vest and t-shirt, both of which debuted during GmbH’s SS22 show earlier this year. Pre-orders are now open, with all proceeds split equally between two Palestinian charities – AlQaws, an LGBTQ+ organisation and The Land of Canaan Foundation, which supports agricultural projects, prioritising small farmers who have lost crops during the occupation. “We hope these items can help amplify the visibility of the Palestinian fight for freedom, as well as supporting organisations working in the region,” Isik and Huseby said.
In other news, fast fashion behemoth Boohoo came under increased scrutiny this week following IPCC’s code-red climate report – with its CEO coming out in public defense of its practices, offering walking tours of the company’s allegedly exploitative factories to prove its “commitment to transparency”. Similarly, knitwear designer Bailey Prado spoke exclusively to Dazed on having her “whole life” copied by Shein. In more positive headlines, however, Tavi Gevinson announced she would be thrifting her Style Rookie era looks, while Thierry Mugler’s iconic creations are heading to a Paris museum. Incidentally, Cardi B had a go at recreating the designer’s breastplates in her new Lizzo video, “Rumors”.

THE FASHION AWARDS ARE BACK, BABY
Having taken an enforced, digital hiatus last year, the British Fashion Council this week announced that The Fashion Awards will be making a return to the Royal Albert Hall on November 29. With nominations taking place next month, 800 members of the international fashion industry will vote on a variety of accolades, reviewing hopeful winners across five categories: environment, people, community and craftsmanship, creativity and culture. Tickets for the event, which acts as an annual fundraiser, will be available to the general public from September 21 – though prices start from around £1,1000.
HTOWN UNVEILS ITS AW21 LOOKBOOK
With brands like Martine Rose, Y/Project, Ahluwalia, and JW Anderson on its shelves, htown, the Hoxton boutique founded by Harry Fisher, is fast becoming a go-to shopping destination. The store released its AW21 lookbook this week, shot by Ollie Adegboye, which showcases chain loafers, spliced football jerseys, and acid wash jeans on twin models Alan and Alex.
TELFAR’S LIBERIA CAPSULE HAS ARRIVED
Though Liberia did not bag a medal during the Tokyo Olympics, when it came to fashion, their flame continues to burn bright: courtesy of designer, and sponsor, Telfar Clemens. And, the New Yorker’s Team Liberia collection is now available to purchase. The capsule offers a twisted take on sports staples with drawstring crop tops, cut-out joggers, tunic-style jerseys, and shoulderless tanks. Shop the drop here.
TOMMY HILFIGER COSIES UP TO ROMEO HUNTE
For AW21, Tommy Hilfiger tapped young designer Romeo Hunte to design a collection blending “Manhattan prep” and “Brooklyn street”. The capsule sees Hunte reinterpret Tommy classics with his own signature take on deconstruction – spliced and diced trench coats and zip-off puffers, for example. The relationship between the two labels go deeper, however, as Hunte Romeo was initially part of Tommy’s People’s Place Program, a project designed to support creatives from BIPOC communities. Check out Tommy X Romeo, which is now online.
PALACE AND ADIDAS ARE GETTING INTO WELLNESS
Having previously collaborated on football, tennis, and golf collections as part of their collaborative series, Palace and adidas are back, this time venturing into the world of wellness. While a full-on Vinyasa flow may be a stretch for these fledgling yogis, Palaste, as the capsule has been dubbed, is all about providing ‘deep relaxation’. Think pool sliders, sun hats, vests, towelling shorts, and bathrobes festooned in yin and yang motifs. The collection goes live today in stores and online.
BEYONCÉ AND JAY Z ARE TIFFANY AMBASSADORS
During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, which went live this week, the notoriously tight-lipped Beyoncé teased at a slew of upcoming projects – including a range of bath bombs, a hemp farm, and an album. As she stood in the magazine’s pages, pictured in jewels, which were not the standard Lorraine Schwartz, it was also announced that the singer (and husband Jay Z) would become Tiffany’s new ambassadors – making Bey the latest sea-change strategy employed by LVMH to invigorate the label.
