Right now most of us can only dream of jetting off to sunnier shores, so the new campaign film from Collini, starring a cast of champion Collini-clad wakeboarders taking on the waves of Lake Como, is a tantalising mirage of holidays to come (soon, fingers crossed).

A fixture in the Italian fashion landscape since its inception in the 30s, Collini is now under the direction of Carmine Rotondaro. Since taking over the label in 2017, Rotondaro has ushered in a new, ground-breaking approach for the heritage brand. Pushing boundaries conceptually and ushering in a new era of sustainability, he has already tackled Collini’s historic use of fur; making the switch to entirely upcycled material at the outset of 2020.

Where last season’s collection, Adapt and Prevail, saw the brand engaged with the present, with a campaign shot by Zhili Xue that featured models confined to their homes and the monotony of everyday domestic tasks, now, Rotondaro turns his attention to the system of fashion itself; specifically, the waste that’s inherent in the seasonal collection model.

The last few years have seen something of a reckoning for the traditional fashion calendar, with luxury brands and emerging designers alike increasingly questioning the need for the punishing grind of fashion seasons. Rotondaro’s solution? COLLINI LIBRARY. The antithesis of here today, gone tomorrow, each season’s ‘all-star’ pieces from the current collection will be added to this ever-evolving archive. Available to buy year-round, COLLINI LIBRARY seeks to transcend trends and escape the ephemeral nature of fashion.

Filmed in Lake Como as a nod to the brand’s Italian heritage, and reflective of the timelessness of the collection, Making Waves gives a glimpse of what we can expect from the LIBRARY pieces. In line with Rotondaro’s knack for pairing luxury with comfort, metallics and casualwear are prevalent, with the assembled wakeboarders kitted out in gold hotpants, a silver 80s-influenced cropped jacket, and a gold-flecked hoodie.

These pair easily with timeless pieces; including hotpants, leather leggings, and more pieces bearing leopard print motifs. The wakeboarders are mesmerising, and as the six fall into formation behind their boats the video closes with a message of optimism: “SEE YOU ON THE NEXT WAVE”.
