Oprah gives the Telfar bag her seal of approval

First AOC, now Oprah Winfrey has outed herself as a fan of the iconic it-bag

Already ranking among the most important accessories of the 2010s, Telfar’s iconic Shopping Bag – aka simply the “Telfar bag” – has truly enjoyed the recognition it deserves in 2020, winning designer Telfar Clemens a CFDA Award for Accessories Designer of the Year, and earning a co-sign, then a purchase, from congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Now, Oprah Winfrey has also thrown her support behind the label’s signature bags, which are included in her annual list of “favourite things” alongside potential gifts from many other Black-owned businesses. Specifically, the medium Telfar bag has made the cut. “I take the cream one with me everywhere,” the talk show host, activist and philanthropist writes on the Oprah Magazine website, confirming that the unisex tote “has quickly become the new It bag”.

On Instagram, Telfar has also shared a post that shows Oprah revealing the bag’s spot in the 2020 “O List”. Talking to Clemens via a video call, she praises its craftsmanship and the thought that went into it, as well as its current viral popularity. “I’m actually blown away,” Clemens replies.

To no one’s surprise, given that it’s notoriously difficult to get your hands on (there’s a reason the brand debuted its Bag Security Program earlier this year), the Telfar bag is currently out of stock on Amazon, where it launched for the first time alongside the feature on Oprah’s “favourite things” list.
