Following on from his highly coveted Ozweego trainer, which he co-created with adidas, this time around the shoe will be independently designed. Entitled (RUNNER), the trainer will come in eight different styles and iterations, in a number of colourways. Announced on Raf Simons’ Instagram account yesterday, the post explained the shoe was “an investigation of form and function and an exploration of shape, (where) the typical silhouettes of sports sneakers and re-proposed.” With an emphasis on optimistic futurism, the shoe’s titles play on the theme of space, referring to likes of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Named 2001, ORION, SOLARIS, ANTEI, and CYLON, the pieces will focus on the use of natural material, including leathers and suede. Set to be an on-going project, which will develop throughout upcoming seasons, (RUNNER) will be officially unveiled at Simons’ AW20 presentation in Paris later this month.
