Instant noodles are hot for 2020, according to Bottega Veneta

Thanks to the likes of Ancuta Sarca and Nicole McLaughlin, DIY shoes that take everyday objects and subvert them for the sake of fashion are having a moment: chances are you’ll have already seen Sarca’s hybrid kitten heels or McLaughlin’s balloon sliders while scrolling endlessly through Instagram.

Following the success of its Lido shoe, which was spotted on the feet of basically every fashion week attendee at last season’s shows, it seems that Bottega Veneta is tapping into the unlikely footwear trend for its 2020 Pre-Fall collection. 

Debuting in the Italian label’s latest lookbook, one style instantly caught our attention. Presented in both open-toed mule and boot form, the shoes bear an uncanny resemblance to instant noodles (and, in light of this, Justin Timberlake’s hair circa 1998). 

Available in a light beige or deep yellow colour (read: flavour), the footwear is giving us student budget, but make it fashion energy. Elsewhere in the collection, in-keeping with the ‘my food cupboard at the end of the month’ theme, there is also an oversized fleecy bag which resembles a mish-mash of some buttery toasted bread.

With the Italian brand enjoying a meteoric rise to fashion stardom this past year, and its creative director Daniel Lee picking up pretty much every award at the 2019 British Fashion Awards, it's highly likely you'll be seeing a lot more of the noodle shoes, perhaps on the FROW, come 2020. But why not do-it-yourself? With a quick trip to Sainsbury’s and a hot glue gun, you too can be part of the trend. Thank us later.
