So, for its 20th anniversary it needed to be honored in the most iconic way possible – enter: a limited-edition Marc Jacobs collection. The brainchild of Jacobs and Dazed100 alum Ava Nirui, the merch includes a hoodie, a t-shirt, and trousers, with proceeds going to LGBTQ+ suicide prevention charity The Trevor Project. The capsule collection is modelled by Dazed cover star Adut Akech, and features iconography from the film, including a photo of protagonist Susanna Kaysen (played by Winona Ryder) and sociopath Lisa Rowe (Angelina Jolie), as well as the famous quote: “Have you ever confused a dream with life?” Announcing the collection on Instagram, Nirui said: “This project is dear to me – this movie changed the way I viewed mental health at a very young age, which was massively beneficial to me as I was in the process of growing up under the guidance of a close family member with depression.” “It really helped me become more accepting of her and others impacted by mental illness,” the designer continued. “I’m happy to have done this project with such an important organisation.” Nirui now works full-time for Marc Jacobs after collaborating with the brand in 2017. Regramming her post, Jacobs added: “THANK YOU AVA. I’m so proud of this. GRATEFUL to you for giving life to this project.” Girl, Interrupted is based on Kaysen’s 1993 memoir about her stay at a mental institution, with the 1999 film adaptation starring Brittany Murphy, Clea DuVall, Elisabeth Moss, Vanessa Redgrave, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jared Leto, as well as Ryder and Jolie. For those of you who want to get your hands on the limited-edition collection, you better be quick – it seems the t-shirt is completely sold out, and there’s limited numbers left of the rest.
