Instead of a stellar cast of models, founders Kate and Laura Mulleavy are renowned for enlisting their friends when it comes to shooting their seasonal lookbooks: it just so happens that those friends are some very, very famous faces. As shot by Daria Kobayashi Ritch, this time around the Mulleavys’ reunite longtime collaborator Kirsten Dunst with actress Gabrielle Union, and in the process create a mini Bring It On reunion – only with less pom poms and a whole lot more tulle. Elsewhere, there is a nod to the time Dunst portrayed Marie Antoinette in Sofia Coppola’s cult film of the same name, as she stands next to a pillar topped with some delicate petits fours, while 2019 Dazed 100-er King Princess is seen wearing a blue sequinned power suit and matching boots. Others featured in the series include Rowan Blanchard, Haim, and Margaret Qualley. With romantic tulle gowns, 80s-inspired puffball dresses, and embellished and ruffled jumpsuits all key, the shoot takes place in a Roccoco-style garden strewn with pillars, easels, and an abundance of hydrangeas. “We wanted to create painted portraits,” Laura Mulleavy explained to Vogue of the idea behind the lookbook. “In the end, the images have that quality – not knowing whether or not someone has been painted or photographed.” Check out the gallery above.
