At the AW18 show this was indicated through the casting of Dazed 100ers, drag kid Desmond is Amazing, and activist and model Munroe Bergdorf. In the accompanying campaign, Uribe tapped Desmond is Amazing once again, as well as a drag zebra, and model Jazzelle Zanaughtti. “Our casting director Anthony Conti has been helping me discover and celebrate unique beauty since our first runway show in 2013,” Uribe explains. “I’m very proud of the many black, brown, queer, trans, non-binary/gender nonconforming models that Gypsy Sport has introduced to the fashion industry”. As a comment on binarism, the monochrome collection is also shot in black-and-white by photographer Oscar Ouk. Featuring faces like Zanaughtti and West Dakota, the zebra isn’t actually a real zebra (obviously) but in fact, RuPaul’s Drag Race queen Nina Bo’Nina Brown. “They’re muses who don’t conform to any binaries,” explains Uribe on his choice of cast. Another model wears a fetishistic black animal mask as they crawl, tethered with a chain held by a second figure with half-black and half-white dreadlocks.
