Inspired by a melting pot of references – including Michael & Janet Jackson, Ray Petri and the Buffalo collective – the collection was mostly black and white and featured everything from tailored looks to sportswear. “Anything that resembles DIY or repurposed clothes that you could make at home is the epitome of Gypsy Sport,” Uribe told us of the mix-matched collection. For those who missed the show, the New York label has released a video of the show – and some backstage clips – so you too can enjoy the electric energy felt by attendees. In true Gypsy Sport style, the show featured an amazing variety of models and personalities. Among them were 10-year-old drag kid Desmond Napoles and social activist Munroe Bergdorf, who sashayed down the runway in their black outfits. “I like to cast people who have authentic personal style. It’s not about their skin tone or body size, but more about their self-confidence,” said Uribe. “Both Desmond and Munroe are the prototypes of a fabulously unapologetic existence that we should all strive for.” Amen!
