This afternoon, we saw another: German-born photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, who took to the runway at the SS17 show of anarchic label Hood By Air. HBA’s Shayne Oliver has picked up a reputation for casting underground figures in his shows, having previously selected trans model, activist and actor Hari Nef, Russian artist Slava Mogutin, performance artist Boychild, and musicians A$AP Rocky and Arca to model. As a community, the brand have built a reputation for pushing the envelope with their casting choices and designs. In much the same way, Wolfgang Tillmans has shown an openness to collaboration, having had his track “Device Control” released on Frank Ocean’s recent Endless album. While the photographer has operated within the structures of fashion, his work has also played a part in larger conversations around the politics of sexuality and contemporary youth culture – not unlike Hood By Air’s. The brand’s own Ian Isiah took over the @dazedfashion Instagram Story to share moments from backstage at the show – so to see Wolfgang getting his hair done, head here.
