Curated by Londoner Kay Duffy, the page showcases her own pick of everything from archive fashion editorials to retro typography, with a vintage, psychedelic feel running throughout. Below, Duffy unpicks the inspirations behind her account, our @DazedFashion pick of the week. What and who is Visual Pursuit? Kay Duffy: Visual Pursuit is a journey through female wonder exploring style, mind and freedom of the body. Vibrant and light-hearted with an underpinning of female solidarity – via different eras, creative force and visual stimulation. What motivated you to start the account? Kay Duffy: I've been collecting vintage magazine clippings and archiving images since school and had an urge to form a digital platform. I am pleased to be curating the series “An Exploration of Female Wonder” with London-based artists previewing at the Saatchi gallery, late Autumn this year. The posts lean towards the erotic, what interests you in this kind of imagery? Kay Duffy: I suppose my awakening to womanhood. Literary influence such as Anaïs Nin, Joan Kelly. Love and romance. The magnetic creators who break boundaries when exploring female sexuality. Artists’ diverse interpretations and identities of the female. The comprehension that nudity exists in non-sexual contexts. How would you describe your aesthetic? Kay Duffy: I'm drawn to a muted palette, stimulated by nature and adore opulent, classical architecture. Visual Pursuit is more technicolor and psychedelic. I have such an appreciation for retro fashion and imagery, from 20s film actresses through to 80s Japanese fashion movements. The 60s and 70s are my favourites for aesthetic inspiration, being raised by my Grandparents connected me to these eras in so many ways. How do you source images for the account? Kay Duffy: From my personal archive of editorials, clippings, digital imagery or personal collaborations. Sometimes a screen-grab of something that makes my heart skip a beat! And submissions from like-minded creators.Who are your favourite designers, photographers, artists? Kay Duffy: Comme Des Garçons, Ann Demeulemeester, Prada, Margiela, Beaufille. Helmut Newton, Harley Weir, Mario Testino, Horst P Horst, Herb Ritts, Ruth Hogben, Steven Meisel. Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Yves Klein...the list is infinite.
