The model has just landed a major role on Precious director Lee Daniels' forthcoming hip-hop drama Empire. The sprawling TV show follows Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) as a record label magnate whose three sons and ex-wife (Taraji P. Henson) all tussle for supremacy. The Hollywood Reporter says that Campbell will play Camilla, an older woman who gets involved in a high-stakes affair with Hakeem, the potential heir to his father Lucious' empire. "Naomi is a beautiful actress. Underrated in my mind," executive producer Daniels said. "She will be wonderful as Camilla. I am truly thrilled to have one of my close friends join us." Campbell said: "It's an honour to follow in the footsteps of actresses like Halle Berry, Oprah, Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'Nique, and work with Lee Daniels. I'm looking forward to joining Lee and this amazing cast on set." The model is better known for her role as reality TV's most terrifying model mentor, but her acting background goes way, way back – she made her television debut as Snow White on children's show The Chiffy Kids (you can watch an eight-year-old Naomi looking adorable here). Campbell's last appearance on a TV drama was Ugly Betty, where she played herself in a very celeb cameo-heavy game of baseball. Empire premieres in spring 2015, so you'll have to wait till next year to find out if Campbell's role involves any phone-throwing. Watch the trailer for Empire below:
