The darling of designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier and Marc Jacobs, the beautiful Pejic described herself in July as "more comfortable than ever" in her own skin and thanked her fans for their support, encouraging them to identify with whatever or wheoever they want to be. 2013 saw her show up in a David Bowie video alongside luminaries such as Saskia de Brauw, Tilda Swinton and Iselin Steiro. Now, Pejic is crowdfunding the release of a documentary that follows her journey from the Serbian refugee camps as a young boy to her emergence as a superstar female model and inspiration to those around the world who struggle with gender dysphoria. The film is called Andrej(a), find out more about it here. Yesterday, Pejic hosted a Reddit AMA with fans. Naturally she was excellent value, so let's take a look at the best bits. ON WORKING WITH DAVID BOWIE "He was EXTREMELY cool. So down to earth. For me, it was a dream come true. When I was younger, in 2000s, there weren't a lot of androgynous icons at the time, so i had to look to the past, to people like David Bowie, and I just thought androgyny was the coolest thing at the time. He's the king of it, it was a dream come true." ON TRANSITIONING IN PUBLIC "I would say transitioning publicly is definitely not the most favorable option. I think it comes with challenges that, you know, can be overcome if you live a private life. I definitely think being public and just being a poster child did come with its own struggles, definitely." I'M 6"4 AND SCARED TO TRANSITION IN CASE I LOOK WEIRD. HOW DID YOU COPE? "I say the taller the better. When i was younger, I did worry about getting too tall, but then I realized that being taller is beautiful, plenty of models are above six feet, and I say: WORK IT." via Wikimedia Commons ON BEING BACKSTAGE AT CATWALK SHOWS "You cannot have any sense of privacy, you can't be shy because half the time you are walking around in your underwear. You have to be okay with being felt up constantly by the makeup artists, by stylists, it's like being a doll. You can't have any feeling." WHAT IS MOST MISUNDERSTOOD ABOUT TRANSGENDER PEOPLE TODAY? "I would say the fact that we are human beings like anyone else, and we strive to have happy and fulfilling lives, like anyone else. And that we are like everybody else." Go Andreja.
