As the first couture label to introduce a luxury prêt-à-porter range to its repertoire, YSL is now raising the bar with Stefano Pilati’s “Edition Unisex”. From the iconic “Le Smoking Suit” in the 1960s, YSL has always pushed the boundaries of traditional gender paradigms in fashion and. Challenging contemporary notions of sex and sexuality, YSL’s latest venture is a continuation of a dialogue the house has cultivated since it’s inception. Drawing inspiration from Pilati’s S/S 09 menswear collection, the “Edition Unisex” is based on a largely masculine silhouette as blazers, trenches and pants take on menswear proportions and cuts. However, and inherent femininity breaks through creating signature YSL gender ambiguity as men’s shapes are cut from delicate silks and organzas. In celebration of this new collection, YSL opened a temporary space in downtown Manhattan for a little under two weeks this month, where clients had the opportunity to peruse the new range.YSL's "Edition Unisex" will also be available in Milan at the Via Montenapoleone flagship store from the 25th of February until the 4th of March before moving on to the Faubourg St Honore store in Paris from the 5th to the 12th of March.
