Fashion / ShowMiu Miu AW14Plastic-fantastic: Miuccia subverts the functional with a new feeling of luxury to end PFWShareLink copied ✔️March 6, 2014FashionShowTextIsabella BurleyMiu Miu AW14 Initial reaction: Miuccia might have given us Bauhaus fantasies with a hint of perversion in Milan, but today she revelled in the subverting the functional with a new feeling of luxury. Plastic perversion: Covering the entire Palais d’léna in transparent plastic and exposed scaffolding, Miuccia’s collection reflected its plastic-fantastic surroundings. Channeling ‘avant-bland’ foundations, traditionally mundane and functional garments were transformed into a luxurious covetable offering of translucent raincoats with bold poppers, layered over cable knit jumpers and glitter-clad lurex dresses. Quilted nylon also made an appearance as a key fabric for the collection, in the shape of tunic dresses and a-line skirts, accompanied by zig-zag metallic utilitarian outerwear. How it was worn: With subtly exposed triangle bras – seductive, yet sweet. Hair was split into a sleek middle parting and eyebrows were peppered with glitter. Soundtrack: Models stomped down the catwalk in pointy perspex ankle boots to the ultimate sound of the 90s: “Depeche Mode – Enjoy the Silence”. The slow tempo version was a stark contrast to the candy quilts and lollipop-like transparents. Miu Miu girls: Dazed cover stars and Miu Miu SS14 campaign girls Elizabeth Olsen and Lupita Nyong’o were dotted across the front row along with Elle Fanning, Stacy Martin and Lea Seydoux – all in Miu Miu, of course. Rihanna was also in attendance, already fronting this season’s AW14 Prada boxy coloured shearling. Escape the algorithm!
