At first they take the form of invitations – this season a flipbook of Rothko inspired colours – then they appear in her sets. For yesterdays offering, she suggested a twisted view of paradise with her large-scale painted blocks, which were covered with bold colours and abstract silhouettes of palm trees. As always, before the show had even started, Miuccia had surrounded the collection with an air of mystery. This season, the greatest mystery she would unveil would be sending girls down the men’s runway. It wasn’t just one or two looks, but an entire army of them – apparently she had an idea and just couldn’t wait until September. It was a bold move for Prada. It enhanced the menswear looks and together boy and girl told a modern Prada love story. The entire collection was made up of a wash of dark tropical colours and illustrative prints of flowers and palm tresses. The womenswear looks were further embellished with sequins and beading, whilst the men’s was covered with prints of hulla girls. It was a very sultry and dark view of paradise, especially when colours took an even darker turn with deep burgundies and dark sunset prints. Escape the algorithm!
