Instagram/@donni.davyBeautyBeauty FeatureHow to recreate Euphoria’s best make-up looks after its big Emmy winThe hit TV series’ make-up department has bagged a well-deserved Emmy win – from Jules’ spikey eyes to Maddie’s gold chain cut crease, here’s how you can DIY Euphoria’s beauty momentsShareLink copied ✔️September 21, 2020BeautyBeauty FeatureTextAlex Peters The make-up looks of Euphoria were a veritable visual feast for the beauty enthusiast’s eyes, and truly captured and defined this generation’s aesthetic. From sky blue eyelids with chainmail applique and rhinestone-studded eyebrows, to geometric face stickers and glitter tears, the HBO show’s make-up was colourful, bejewelled, and over-the-top in the best way – a much needed tonic for the bleak political and environmental climates of 2019. Drawing on influences ranging from VSCO and E-girls on TikTok to Nina Simone, make-up artist Doniella Davy created cohesive, distinctive visual identities for each character whether that was Jules’s (Hunter Schafer) colourful, whimsical lid designs or Kat’s (Barbie Ferreira) dominatrix-infused makeover. Euphoria reflected and set the trends of Instagram glam in real-time and created a rippled effect through the wider fashion industry particularly the SS20 season where the Maddie, Jules, Cassie, and Rue looks were in full effect. It’s hard to remember the last time a television programme had as big a cultural impact on beauty as the first season of Euphoria had and now the make-up artists behind the looks are getting their due. Last night, Euphoria won an Emmy award for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup with department head Davy as well as Kristen Sage Colemand and Tara Lang Shah all included in the nod. To celebrate the extremely well-deserved win, we’ve gone back through the beauty archives to rank the best looks from the show and to help you get the looks at home. And although the much anticipated season two has had to halt production in the midst of lockdown, we can still fantasise about what exquisite, otherworldly looks Davy has in store for us. Alexia Demie certainly knows what she wants for Maddy next season, telling Dazed Beauty last year, “I’m excited to push it and go for maybe some darker colours and experiment more with shapes.” 1/39 You may like next 1/39 1/39 Instagram/@donni.davyCassie’s ice skating lookThis rhinestone-studded look of Cassie’s in episode eight is a moment of pure indulgence and fantasy.view more + 2/39 2/39 Instagram/@donni.davyCassie’s ice skating look“I wanted to create a feeling that was the opposite of Cassie’s present reality in this moment,” Doniella Davy explained of the inspiration behind the look.view more + 3/39 3/39 Instagram/@donni.davyCassie’s ice skating look“Think: what would the opposite of getting an abortion look like on Cassie’s face?” she continued.view more + 4/39 4/39 Courtesy of MaybellineCassie’s ice skating lookThe eyeshadow base: Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Turquoise Foreverview more + 5/39 5/39 Courtesy of MaoXinTekCassie’s ice skating lookThe rhinestones: Crystal Rhinestone Stickersview more + 6/39 6/39 Courtesy of Anastasia Beverly HillsCassie’s ice skating lookThe lipstick: Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Spiceview more + 7/39 7/39 Instagram/@donni.davyJules's spiky eye lookEvery make-up choice on Euphoria has been deeply thought through by the team to express exactly how the character is feeling in that moment. I designed her make-up to have a fantastical element to it because despite her fierce outward personality, Maddy is a diehard Romantic who wants to transcend the “loveless marriage” that is her home life.”view more + 13/39 13/39 Courtesy of MaoXinTekMaddy's turquoise crystal lookThe rhinestones: Crystal Rhinestone Stickersview more + 14/39 14/39 Courtesy of ColourPopMaddy's turquoise crystal lookThe eyeshadow: ColourPop Pressed Powder Shadow in Formationview more + 15/39 15/39 Courtesy of House of LashesMaddy's turquoise crystal lookThe lashes: House of Lashes Iconic Lashesview more + 16/39 16/39 Instagram/@kirinriderMaddy's chain lookFor what make-up artist Kirsten Coleman calls Maddy’s “fuck off” look in episode 7, the team created a shimmering pale blue eye look with a delicate gold chain liner which they secured to the lid with lash glue.view more + 17/39 17/39 Instagram/@kirinriderMaddy's chain look“While in the jewelry-making section of Michaels one day looking for more fun things to glue on faces, I spotted some gold chains and knew immediately that I wanted Maddy to have chain eyeliner at some point, preferably during a moment of conflict,” says Davy.view more + 18/39 18/39 Courtesy of Anastasia Beverly HillsMaddy's chain lookThe eyeshadow: Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kitview more + 19/39 19/39 Courtesy of ColourPopMaddy's chain lookThe eyeliner: ColourPop Crème Gel Liner in Big Splashview more + 20/39 20/39 Courtesy of MichaelsMaddy's chain lookThe chains: Michaels Hamilton Gold Curb Chain Necklaces By Bead Landingview more + 21/39 21/39 Instagram/@donni.davyJules's cloud lookJules has the most whimsical beauty style of the characters, often sporting colourful and playful shapes and designs around her eyes. Gels work the best either alone or on top of a longwear eyeshadow cream or liner.”view more + 27/39 27/39 Courtesy of Face LaceRue's sad clown tearsThe stars: Face Lace Dazzlestarsview more + 28/39 28/39 Courtesy of Glitter InjectionRue's sad clown tearsThe glitter: Glitter Injection in Star of the Seaview more + 29/39 29/39 Courtesy of Glitter InjectionRue's sad clown tearsThe glitter: Glitter Injection in Blueberryview more + 30/39 30/39 Instagram/@donni.davyJules's gold leafEveryone kills it with their costumes for episode six’s Halloween party from Lexi’s Bob Ross outfit to Cassie as True Romance’s Alabama Worley.
