The best Twitter reactions to Kanye West’s bizarre silver opera ensemble

How could you be so heartless?

Yesterday (December 8), Kanye West staged the second instalment of what seems to be a biblical opera series. Directed by frequent collaborator Vanessa Beecroft, Mary, as the name and festive season might suggest, followed the Christmas nativity story and featured new arrangements of old Kanye songs including “Devil in a New Dress” and “Love Lockdown” by the Sunday Service choir.

Taking place at the Miami Marine Stadium in Florida, just in time for the last day of Art Basel, Kanye and his choir reenacted scenes from the books of Matthew and Luke as they floated on a barge.

But – to be honest – we don’t really care about any of that because the contents of the show were largely eclipsed by the wardrobe and make-up choices… which were wild.

The entire cast of the show, including Kanye himself, were dressed head to toe in silver vinyl robes while their faces and hands were masked in silver paint. Of course, the internet took great pleasure in these unusual ensembles and the jokes came in thick and fast. From the Wizard of Oz’s Tin Man to a baked potato to those living statues you see in tourist areas the world over, there was no shortage of things to compare Kanye to and Twitter users did not disappoint. Here are some of the best Twitter reactions.
