Lush is closing its doors in solidarity with the Global Climate Strike

‘We all share this planet, so we need to band together to sound the alarm’

Lush has always put its money where its mouth is when it comes to upholding its sustainable ethos, from its packaging-free products, which make up almost 50 per cent of the core range, and its 100 per cent packaging-free stores to initiatives like the SOS Sumatra campaign which raises awareness of the dangers orangutans are under and funds reforesting in Indonesia.

Now, the company is going one step further in its fight for the environment– closing its 250 US and Canada stores to support the Global Climate Strike. Taking place over the week of September 20-27 to coincide with the UN’s Climate Action Summit on September 23, Greta Thunberg’s Global Climate Strike is galvanising people to demand an end to the age of fossil fuels and climate justice for everyone.

In solidarity with the strikers, Lush will close its US stores on September 20 and its stores in Canada on September 27. Not only that, but Lush is also shutting down its headquarters, manufacturing facilities, and e-commerce, encouraging its over 5,000 employees to take to the streets in protest. Throughout the week, the company will also be using its store windows and social media platforms to promote the strike and educate people on the crisis.

“As a business with deep roots in environmental activism, giving our thousands of staff the time to get out there and demand bold action is a no brainer,” says Mark Wolverton, Lush Cosmetics North America CEO and president, in a statement. “We all share this planet, so we need to band together to sound the alarm and show our politicians that 'business as usual' is no longer an option. Climate crisis won't wait, and neither will we.”
