Dazed Beauty Wellness Editor Emilia Ortiz is the no bullshit, Brooklyn-based bruja, spiritual advisor, creative, mental health advocate, motivational speaker, empath, fairy Godmother you’ve been waiting for. Passed down to Emilia through the generations of her Puerto Rican lineage, Brujeria emcompasses various indigenous forms of spirituality and witchcraft practices used by Latin American, Caribbean, and African peoples. Harnessing her spiritual gift, Emilia decided to turn her attention to mental health guidance – something she felt she never had access to growing up – and set up her own self care platform, Sprititual Mami. As well as offering private spiritual advisory sessions over the phone, Ortiz aims to make healing spaces more inclusive and accessible by using her Instagram @Ethereal.1 as a platform to educate and raise awareness of mental health issues and offer advice, guidance and understanding. Here, as an introduction to our Dazed Beauty readers, she recommends five products that she loves.
Palo Santo
“To cleanse my energy and space from interacting with the world. So that whatever energy I’ve picked up isn’t contributing to my own mental health battles.”

Rose Quartz facial roller
“Not only useful for skin care, using this helps me get a boost of loving vibrations/energy. Which helps me as an empath since that’s the energy I’m constantly radiating. It’s good to give some back to myself.

Brujita Skincare & Filthy Cosmetics
“Both of these lines are owned by WOC, who keep in mind the concepts of energy, ritual and holistic practices. The ingredients they use help with grounding, calming and realigning your skin to be its best. Nothing harsh, just natural and magical. Enhancing your own magic with theirs.”

Check-in journal
“I keep a journal of my feelings, whatever has affected me for the day or the week. Identifying what no longer serves my highest good. I use it to help me remain present and not dwell on what has happened. If it’s written down on paper, it’s no longer a mess in my head.”
