The rapper had arrived in the building to have a pre-arranged, 15-minute chat with president-elect Donald Trump – the man he apparently “would have voted for” in last month’s U.S election. At the time, details on what they discussed were vague. According to Trump, it was simply a little talk about “life”, as the pair had been “friends for a long time”. However, West has now clarified the true reason behind the meeting. “I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues,” the rapper tweeted yesterday evening. “These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernising curriculums, and violence in Chicago.” “I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.” West, who was hospitalised last month for exhaustion, also brought up his upcoming presidential run. In a cryptic final tweet, the designer simply wrote “#2024” – dropping a hint that he may be planning to postpone his 2020 campaign for another four years. It’s not clear whether that’s to help Trump serve a second term, or because of his recent health issues. While many of West’s fans have expressed concern about his sudden admiration for the Republican, others are more hopeful. In a series of tweets posted yesterday, New York rapper A$AP Ferg theorised that the meeting was “strategic”, and that West was “smarter than we think he is.” “I think Kanye West was right today for meeting up with Trump,” he added. “You need to know where this man head is at!!! He rules your nation.” Update, 16:44 GMT: Kanye West has tweeted out a photo of TIME with Trump as ‘Person of the Year’ on the cover, personally signed by the President-Elect. “To Kanye. You are a great friend. Thanks.” pic.twitter.com/tNMBk0sZJw— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) December 14, 2016I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues.— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) December 13, 2016These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) December 13, 2016I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) December 13, 2016#2024— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) December 13, 2016
