Back in June 2014, we heard whispers that John Turturro was hoping to direct a Big Lebowski spin-off. The actor – who played cult creep Jesus Quintana – was reportedly planning on reviving his role for the mystery project, but was waiting for permission from the film’s original directors, the Coen brothers, before he could actually do it.
Now, two years down the line, it seems like he may have finally (somehow) secured it. According to Birth.Movies.Death, the actor-slash-filmmaker is actually a week or two into the production of the project, and is shooting it in New York right at this moment.
The film, titled Going Places, is reportedly a combination of two separate movies – and will function as both a spinoff of the 1998 Coen brothers’ classic, as well as a remake of 1974 French comedy Les Valseuses. It will take on the storyline of the latter, which follows the story of two thieves who attempt to couple up with a woman hoping to receive her first orgasm.
Turturro will reprise his role as Jesus Quintana, and will also be directing and writing the feature. Blue Jasmine’s Bobby Cannavale is said to be taking on the role of his thieving sidekick, while the ‘woman’ will be played be Audrey Tautou. Susan Sarandon will also star, with Jeff Bridges set to make a special cameo as “The Dude”.
The movie currently has no studio or distributor – therefore no release date. Watch the trailer for the original 1974 version of the film below:
