Like a diary entry, Bree Avery talked about her life, her ‘dorkiness’ and small town boredom. With the video-sharing site still in its infancy, her regular posts kept a nation captivated, collating 1.5 million views on average each week – an exorbitant number back then. It eventually came out that Lonelygirl15 was actually an actress originally from New Zealand called Jessica Lee Rose, and the webseries, which began to hint at supernatural and cultish elements, supposedly killed her off in 2008. It left an enraptured audience devastated. But a new video shows that Bree Avery is ‘alive’, in the first episode of a mysterious series that’s cropped up on YouTube this week. The two-minute clip begins with a retro looking login screen, that warns users not to share. The threat of “brute force” wavers. “VIDEO 4: What to do if you are selected (ver.2)” sees Avery narrate a strange training video, where she discusses what to do when you’re “selected” for “the ceremony”. The video never goes into detail about whatever the hell she’s talking about - it just sounds pretty ominous, though Avery says it’s “amazing”. Skips and glitches only add to the weirdness. It seems to be the first in a new strange series, so keep an eye out for what our once beloved Lonelygirl15 does next.
