Refn, who was speaking after the premiere of his latest film The Neon Demon, told the waiting media that the Nymphomaniac director had done “a lot of drugs”. He also accused him of attempting to sleep with his wife. “The last time I saw Lars he tried to tell my wife he wanted to have sex with her”, Refn claimed. “I told him to fuck off, so he found some other slut.” It’s not the first time Refn has expressed his disdain for Von Trier. Back in 2011 – when both filmmakers were promoting films at Cannes – Von Trier came under fire after expressing sympathy for Hitler. After hearing that Refn had been “repulsed” by his statements, though, the Melancholia director took the slight personally; saying that he’d known Refn since he was a child. “Fuck him,” he added. Refn, whose father used to work as an editor for Von Trier, initially dismissed the dispute. “The thing about Lars is that he's getting old and his comedy routine is a bit tiresome,” he revealed to Indiewire later that year. “He is very provincial. He's just a farm boy caught in the big game.” Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday. Privacy policy Thank you.
