A paean to the brand’s eight year collaboration with fashion photographer Miles Aldridge, who has notched up shoots with everyone from supermodel and ex-wife Kristen McMenamy, Cindy Sherman and Dazed’s AW14 cover star Nicki Minaj for the makeup house. Party goers including Prince’s band 3RDEYEGIRL, PVC blow-up blogger Pandemonia, drag queen M.J. Woodbridge, musical duos Say Lou Lou, AlunaGeorge and director Sean Frank were left to go wild amongst set designer Jack Flanagan’s psychedelic, fully-stocked supermarket aisles. DJs Eclair Fifi, The 2 Bears and Oneman provided a high energy mix of hip-hop and house music as M·A·C’s technicolour store clerks whizzed around with shopping trolleys filled to the brim with fluorescent boxes of M·A·C’s washing powder and soda pop. M·A·C x Miles Aldridge party Drinks flowed courtesy of Mahiki Coconut Rum and Peroni Nastro Azzurro from barmen who were – in true Aldridge/M·A·C-style – kitted out in “Hey Sailor” outfits, while M·A·C’s Spring 2012 campaign sea siren Ilva Heitmann was resurrected to keep watch amongst a sea of waves splashed across the wall. Directly opposite, the hyperreal history book, published by Rizzoli and curated by M·A·C creative director James Gager, was rigged up in all its glory, with copies scattered around the room for guests to peruse. Featuring never before seen – deemed too naughty for previous publication – snaps, and words and one-liners penned by purveyors of the unconventional, Val Garland, Valerie Steele, Daphne Guinness and Beth Ditto, Miles of M·A·C goes on sale soon, with copies available in M·A·C stores from December. If you can’t get enough of Miles, you can catch his exhibition at the Sims Reed Gallery from 17-26 September.
