Taking over the Dazed Space at 180 The Strand, the show is co-curated by Fynn Studio and acclaimed DJ and producer SHERELLE to create an event that is simultaneously an art exhibition, sonic experience and club night. Opening on March 1 and running for a limited time of ten days, move/003 draws visitors on a sensory journey through the physical and psychological landscape of a night out. From starting with the bouncers, to getting lost with your mates and ending up by the sound system, move/003 is not just a chronological retelling of a history. Through recorded conversations, photography and digital art, the exhibition conceptualises the fabric of a night out while documenting the non-linear journey of how a community built from music has impacted the art world on a greater scale. The show will honour rave culture icons, paying homage to the seminal Black-owned club Colour Factory, the Ugandan non-binary queer photographer and social activist DeLovie Kwagala, and Keep the Drums, Lose the Knife, a survivor-led organisation that works to end female genital mutilation in both Sierra Leone and the UK through community bonding and music. Referencing the tradition of 1950s Japanese listening bars and more contemporary iterations on the theme, move/003 will also invite visitors to listen in on conversations between Black and queer electronic music producers on SHERELLE’s music label, BEAUTIFUL. Re-edits of the recorded conversations featured in move/003 will be released as podcasts on Spotify within the GLOW hub. GLOW is Spotify’s global music program celebrating and amplifying LGBTQ+ artists and creators. That’s not all: on March 4, BEAUTIFUL will be hosting a music production workshop powered by AIAIAI. The workshop will be led by electronic music producer HAAi, who will be offering attendees a unique insight into her creative process. move/003 (powered by Spotify and AIAIAI and partnered by Dazed) will be running at Dazed Space, 180 The Strand, London, from March 1 until March 10 2024. Tickets for the exhibition are available here, and workshop tickets are available here. Escape the algorithm!
